“UK Man’s Father Missing in Cambodia, Scammed for Info”

A man from the UK received a distressing demand for money after his father went missing during a trip to Cambodia. Adam Mielcarek, aged 59, was exploring South East Asia as a digital nomad but suddenly lost contact with his family. His son, also named Adam, frantically sought help from authorities and social media groups to locate his father. Concern escalated when he received alarming photos of his father in a vulnerable state on the streets of Cambodia.

Despite efforts to track his father’s iPhone location, communication ceased abruptly. The son contacted authorities in Cambodia, the UK, and Poland, eventually turning to a private investigative firm in Southeast Asia for assistance. Weeks later, a Chinese individual visited the Polish consulate in Cambodia, claiming knowledge of the missing man’s whereabouts.

The Chinese contact sent disturbing images of the emaciated father and demanded payment for information on his location, raising suspicion of a scam. The family, aided by the investigative firm, managed to locate the father based on the images but found only his jacket. Fortunately, a local woman discovered the father living on the streets and facilitated his rescue and medical treatment.

Following the ordeal, the father remains physically stable but without his passport. Plans for repatriation are underway, albeit complicated by travel restrictions. The son expressed intentions to seek mental health support for his father upon their return to Europe, acknowledging the challenges ahead. A fundraising campaign has been initiated to assist with medical expenses and the journey back home. Emotional support resources are also provided for those in need.
