Prince Harry reportedly expressed feeling abandoned and faced potential security risks as he chose to accompany Meghan Markle on a trip back to the UK to support her brand. The couple returned to the UK after two years in California for Meghan’s speech at the One Young World charity conference. Royal author Tom Bower revealed in his upcoming book, “Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family,” that Harry was concerned about security issues but still decided to travel despite the lack of armed protection in Manchester and London.
According to Bower, Meghan’s insistence on appearing at the event to sustain her brand led to Harry’s decision to join her, with a dedicated rail carriage for their journey. Despite restricted public access to the carriage, Harry expressed concerns about his safety due to his close proximity to the public during the trip.
Upon his return to the UK in September 2025, Harry intended to portray himself as a benevolent royal by making a significant donation to Children in Need and publicly promoting it. However, he expressed disappointment at the absence of police protection and urged the Home Secretary to reconsider.
In response to earlier excerpts from Bower’s book, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued a statement criticizing the author’s fixation on them. They accused Bower of constructing elaborate theories without factual basis. The Mirror reached out to Harry and Meghan’s representatives for comment on the book, which is set to be released on March 26.
