Lewis Hamilton’s film “F1: The Movie” received the Academy Award for Best Sound at the Oscars, despite the co-producer’s absence at the ceremony due to his participation in the Chinese Grand Prix. Hamilton achieved his first podium finish for Ferrari in Shanghai, trailing Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.
The movie garnered four nominations, including Best Picture and Visual Effects. In addition to co-producing the successful film, Hamilton made a cameo appearance alongside Brad Pitt and Damson Idris.
Since its release in June 2025, “F1: The Movie” has become the highest-grossing sports film worldwide, grossing over €630 million (£545 million). Following recent wins at the Grammy Awards and BAFTA, the film added another accolade over the weekend by securing the Best Sound award.
Although the film did not win in all categories it was nominated for, it did claim victory in the Best Sound category. During the acceptance speech, the cast and crew made sure to acknowledge Hamilton for his contribution.
This achievement marks a double celebration for Hamilton, coming on the heels of his first podium finish in China for Ferrari. Despite efforts to attend the ceremony, the distance between Shanghai and Los Angeles made it logistically impossible for Hamilton to make it in time.
Hamilton expressed his pride and gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the growing global interest in the sport and his joy in witnessing its expansion. With his recent third-place finish, Hamilton now ranks fourth overall and is gearing up for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix on March 29.
