Outrage has sparked following a disturbing incident where a Muslim woman was violently struck by a speeding car in what witnesses suspect might have been a deliberate assault.
The victim, a woman in her twenties, was hit with significant impact, causing her to be thrown across the road while attempting to enter a parked vehicle on Harrow Manorway in Abbey Wood, situated in south-east London.
Video footage circulating online indicates a red car swiftly turning a corner before abruptly veering towards the woman. The vehicle collides with her from behind and continues driving without decelerating.
Concerned residents who rushed to assist expressed that the driver’s actions appeared intentional, raising concerns that the woman may have been targeted deliberately.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that an investigation is in progress to apprehend the driver involved in the incident, which was reported by the London Ambulance Service around 6:30 pm on Sunday, March 8.
In a statement, the Met Police acknowledged the anxiety this incident has caused within the local community and assured that detectives are swiftly working to identify the suspect.
The police stated that inquiries are ongoing, and they are considering all possible motives at this stage. Individuals with information that could aid the investigation are urged to contact 101 and reference CAD4804/8Mar.
Following the incident, the victim was taken to the hospital, where her condition was determined to be non life-threatening or life-altering before being discharged. No arrests have been made by the police.
Residents in the area, shocked by the incident, fear that the woman was deliberately singled out on a street typically bustling with families and children.
Expressing dismay, one resident informed the Daily Mail, “It’s heartbreaking to see that woman possibly targeted. The driver showed no regard and fled the scene. How could such a thing happen? The entire street is in disbelief, known for being a family-friendly area.”
A spokesperson from the London Ambulance Service disclosed that their teams were alerted to a road traffic collision around 4:30 pm on Sunday and promptly transported the injured woman to the hospital.
“We dispatched an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, and a paramedic in a fast response vehicle to the location. Our initial responders arrived within five minutes,” the spokesperson stated. “We provided immediate care to the woman at the scene and prioritized her swift transfer to the hospital.”
