“Jessie Buckley Nominated for Best Actress at Oscars”

Jessie Buckley is on track to potentially secure her first Best Actress Academy Award at the upcoming glamorous event in Los Angeles this Sunday. Despite her success, the humble Irish actress, aged 36, humorously remarks that she should be home changing her infant’s diaper.

The talented star, who welcomed her first child, a daughter, last year with her spouse Freddie Sorensen, a mental health professional and former television producer, has been celebrated during this awards season, clinching accolades such as the Critics Choice Award, a Golden Globe, and a Bafta.

Reflecting on this remarkable phase in her career, the Hamnet actress acknowledges that the series of surreal moments feels overwhelming, with a promise of a better answer when she reaches 80.

During the Oscar nominee luncheon, Jessie opened up about the conflicting emotions of fatigue and responsibility as a parent to her six-month-old, juxtaposed with the glamour and unfamiliarity of being among renowned industry figures.

The actress, who rose to prominence as a contestant on the BBC’s I’d Do Anything show at the age of 19, expressed her astonishment at the star-studded events, emphasizing the gratitude and surreal nature of being in the presence of esteemed personalities.

With her stellar portrayal in Hamnet, which boasts eight nominations, the Killarney native, residing in Norfolk with her family, is strongly favored to clinch the Leading Actress award at the upcoming Academy Awards.

The film, also featuring Paul Mescal, is helmed by Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao and co-written with Maggie O’Farrell, based on the novel of the same name. It delves into the story of Agnes and William Shakespeare, revolving around the tragedy of their son, Hamnet, and its impact on Shakespeare’s iconic work, Hamlet.

Jessie also shared her camaraderie with Paul Mescal, anticipating more collaborations in the future, praising his versatility and talent as an actor.

Recounting her initial encounter with director Chloe Zhao at the Telluride Film Festival in 2022, Jessie reminisced about the organic connection that led to her pivotal role in Hamnet, rooted in discussions about motherhood and mortality.

Aside from her acting endeavors, Jessie’s musical talents shine through with a duet alongside Irish artist Hozier on a tribute album dedicated to Shane MacGowan, featuring covers by renowned artists like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Waits.
