Tragic Echoes: Teen’s Fatal Fall Mirrors Mother’s Fate

A tragic incident unfolded as a teenager met a similar fate to her mother, who had passed away 15 years earlier. Yazmina Howard fell from a highway bridge, having previously survived a similar fall when her mother, Maxine Carr, plunged from a seven-story balcony while holding her.

Maxine, a resident of Maidstone, Kent, was trying to escape an abusive relationship with her ex-partner, Ivan Delgardo, who she feared would take Yazmina back to his home country of Spain. Philip Hickman, Maxine’s boyfriend at the time, reported enduring two years of aggression from Delgardo before Maxine’s fatal fall in 2003.

During an inquest, a neighbor reported hearing raised voices and seeing a distressing situation on the balcony above. The tragic event led to Maxine falling to her death while holding Yazmina, who survived the fall but suffered injuries.

Yazmina, who had been raised by her grandparents after her mother’s death, tragically passed away in 2018 after falling from a motorway bridge in Larkfield, Kent. The 18-year-old had been out for pizza with a friend on the night of the incident. Her grandmother, Janet, expressed shock and sorrow over the loss, emphasizing that Yazmina was a compassionate and strong young woman who had overcome past trauma.

Described as emotional but resilient, Yazmina was remembered for her kindness and conscientious behavior, such as choosing vegan options and caring for the environment. Her grandfather, Michael Howard, highlighted her struggles with uncertainty about her future career path, noting the lack of support for young people facing similar challenges.

The Howards expressed deep grief over Yazmina’s untimely death and the void it has left in their lives. The tragic circumstances surrounding both Maxine and Yazmina’s deaths have left a lasting impact on their family and community.
