Ex-Husband Guilty of Killing Wife, Burying Body

A man, Alireza Askari, aged 42, was found guilty of killing his wife, Paria Veisi, aged 37, and concealing her body in a makeshift grave in Cardiff. The court learned that the couple had recently separated, with Paria relocating to the UK from Iran in 2010 and working as a hairdresser. After the murder, Askari attempted to deceive others into thinking that Paria was still alive by sending messages from her phone to her workplace. He even moved her car to suggest she had left the area. Concerned friends reported Paria missing, suspecting foul play by her ex-husband.

South Wales Police initiated an investigation, leading to Askari’s arrest while returning to Cardiff. Subsequently, cannisters containing caustic soda were discovered in his vehicle, indicating a sinister motive. Further examination of Askari’s communications revealed his involvement with another woman. Paria’s remains were eventually located beneath patio slabs, soil, and newly planted flowers, showing signs of multiple stab wounds and other injuries.

During the trial, Justice Stacey highlighted Askari’s extreme actions, stating that he preferred killing Paria over letting her go. Paria had recently moved into her own flat before the tragic incident, aiming for a fresh start away from Askari. The court emphasized that she had a promising future ahead of her, as evidenced by her vibrant personality and supportive relationships. Askari confessed to the murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Additionally, Askari’s aunt, Maryam Delavary, was implicated in attempting to cover up the crime and received a prison sentence for perverting the course of justice. The case shed light on a disturbing act of violence that shattered the life of a young woman with a bright future.
