Jesy Nelson Shares Struggles and Hope on First Mother’s Day

Jesy Nelson marked her first Mother’s Day since the birth of her twins with a heartfelt post. Despite challenges faced due to her daughters’ diagnosis with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, Jesy, 34, has kept her followers informed throughout her pregnancy and delivery of daughters Ocean and Story.

On Instagram, Jesy shared a touching black and white photo surrounded by women, expressing her wishes for a happy Mother’s Day to all incredible moms. She also acknowledged those finding the day difficult and shared her experience meeting inspiring mothers and families.

In a separate post, Jesy sent support to those missing their mothers on Mother’s Day, emphasizing the importance of coping with emotions. Additionally, she updated fans on her daughters’ health battle in a video where she encouraged her daughter Story Monroe to say “Mumma.”

Jesy has been advocating for NHS heel prick tests to aid in early diagnosis of SMA Type 1. Through social media, she has shared moments of practicing leg movements with her daughters, as the condition may affect their motor skills and breathing.

The NHS reports that SMA Type 1 can impact mobility and respiratory functions, with a majority of cases being diagnosed at birth. While historically fatal before the age of two without respiratory support, advancements in treatment offer hope for improved survival rates for affected children.
