Iconic Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell has passed away at the age of 64 after a lengthy battle in intensive care following a complex operation. The announcement was made by Phil Campbell and The B*****d Sons, Phil’s band comprising his sons Todd, Dane, and Tyla Campbell.
Phil was renowned for his role as Motorhead’s guitarist, a position he held from 1984 until the band disbanded in 2015 following the death of the band’s founder, Lemmy.
A statement released on the band’s Instagram account, accompanied by a photo of Phil and his wife Gaynor, confirmed his peaceful passing after a courageous struggle in intensive care. Described as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Phil, affectionately known as “Bampi,” was cherished by many and will be greatly missed. The statement concluded with a request for privacy during this difficult time.
In heartfelt tributes, celebrity friends and fans honored Phil Campbell’s memory. Guitarist Chris Caffery expressed his deep sadness and gratitude for Phil’s inspiration, while Alex Skolnick shared fond memories of Phil with Motorhead and extended condolences to the family.
Born in Pontypridd, Phil developed a passion for music early in life, starting to play the guitar at 10 years old. Influenced by iconic musicians like Jimmy Hendrix, Tony Iommi, and Jimmy Page, Phil embarked on his musical journey, eventually joining Motorhead in 1984 after playing with other bands.
Following Motorhead’s disbandment, Phil formed a band with his sons, Phil Campbell And The B*****d Sons, releasing multiple albums. Additionally, he released a solo album in 2019. The band had to withdraw from a scheduled performance at the Takedown Festival due to Phil’s health concerns.
