“Burning Boat Rescue Turns Bizarre: Man Steals Captain’s Vessel”

An individual, who had to be saved from a burning boat, reportedly forcibly removed the captain who rescued him before taking off with the vessel.

Authorities received reports of an incident near Marco Island in Collier County, Florida. Investigations revealed that a captain rescued Ryan Dieter, aged 40, from a boat engulfed in flames and brought him aboard his tow boat.

Dieter allegedly pushed his rescuer off the tow boat and fled with it, leaving the captain stranded. The suspect then navigated the boat to the shore and escaped on foot.

He was later discovered naked in nearby mangroves. Fortunately, the captain was found unharmed, as reported by Gulf Coast News. Local resident Nancy Cook expressed her dismay, stating: “I don’t understand his thought process, but when someone comes to your aid, that’s not how you should respond.

“It was truly unsettling to witness that here,” she added. “The security in this area is excellent. We usually feel very safe. However, I’m relieved the boat captain was okay. That’s frightening.”

Dieter was taken into custody on March 7 and is facing multiple charges, including grand theft, resisting arrest, operating a vessel while impaired, and burglary involving assault or battery. According to arrest records, Dieter is set to appear in court on March 30.

Florida is known for its unusual crimes and incidents that often seem extraordinary. In a previous incident, a surfer braved the waves despite spotting a few sharks in the vicinity.

During his surfing session, a spinner shark suddenly leaped out of the water and collided with him. In an interview with local TV station WFV9, Darren Kaye shared: “I was relieved that its mouth wasn’t open because that’s how they catch prey.”

Recalling the incident, he said: “My heart rate skyrocketed to about 195 in an instant. I paddled as fast as I could to get out of the way.”
