A man who spent 12 years growing up with wolves in a cave has revealed his disappointment with human life. Marcos RodrÃguez Pantoja, known as the Mowgli of Spain, was found by authorities after his unique upbringing was uncovered.
Despite being dubbed the Mowgli of Spain, RodrÃguez expresses struggles with adapting to the harshness of human society and yearns to return to a life among animals. He shared with the BBC his desire to escape to the mountains, seeking solace in nature.
RodrÃguez, now 72 years old, was discovered at 19 in Spain’s Sierra Morena mountain range, where he had lived among wolves for over a decade. Initially found barefoot and barely clothed, he communicated through grunts and had integrated into the wolf pack’s way of life.
Following the loss of his parents, RodrÃguez was left to fend for himself and eventually found companionship with the wolves. His interactions with the wolf cubs, who accepted him as part of their family, were reminiscent of a scene from a storybook.
Living in a modest, cold home now, RodrÃguez reminisces about his youthful days spent with the wolves, his only true family. Despite efforts to reconnect with his past, he feels a sense of alienation in human society, citing mistreatment and a lack of understanding from others.
While he retains remarkable abilities learned from his time with the wolves, such as imitating animal sounds, RodrÃguez struggles to assimilate back into human life. The bustling and chaotic nature of human communities contrasts sharply with the tranquility he found in the wild.
Despite attempts to rekindle his bond with the wolves, RodrÃguez faces the reality that his former companions no longer recognize him. His life story has inspired a film and various studies, highlighting the extraordinary journey of a man who found solace and belonging in the wilderness.
