Brighton Park Predator Convicted of Rape

A man enticed a woman to a well-known city park and then proceeded to attack her. Alieu George, aged 46, was convicted of rape and sexual assault in a trial last December following the incident at Dorset Gardens in Brighton. The 35-year-old woman had encountered George after a night out for drinks in June last year, and she was sexually assaulted by him in a secluded area.

According to Sussex Police, the woman was taken to Dorset Gardens where George raped her. George was apprehended on June 22 after witnesses saw him with the distressed woman in the park. He has since been sentenced to 12 years in prison at Brighton Crown Court. Detective Constable Daisy Alden praised the victim for her bravery in the case, emphasizing George’s threat to women and the increased safety in the Brighton and Sussex areas due to his incarceration.

Sussex Police emphasized their commitment to combatting male violence against women and encouraged victims of sexual offenses to report incidents promptly. The police statement confirmed George’s conviction for rape and sexual assault, highlighting the public’s alertness to the distressing situation in the park on June 22.

During the trial, it was revealed that bystanders observed a man and a woman in the park, with the woman appearing distressed and later seen on the ground with the man on top of her. The woman informed the police that George had singled her out from a group, leading her to the park where he assaulted her. Following his arrest, George was charged with rape and subsequently sentenced to 15 years in prison, with 12 years to be served in custody and an additional three years on extended license, along with an indefinite restraining order.
