North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and his daughter were captured in images shooting pistols at a shooting range located in a munitions factory. During their visit, they tested a purported “new-type pistol” as part of an inspection of the factory. Kim Jong-un praised the factory for its crucial role in enhancing the combat effectiveness of the country’s military and commended the quality of the pistol.
The leader urged the facility to increase production and gave instructions to set up a new production line. Both Kim Jong-un and his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, were dressed in black during the visit, with Kim Ju Ae seen alongside high-ranking military officials.
The visit by the pair highlights a shift in focus by the regime towards conventional military activities after years of emphasis on nuclear weapons. Observers noted that Kim Ju Ae’s participation in pistol shooting signals her development as a potential military leader. Speculation has been rife that Kim Ju Ae, believed to be 13 years old, may be groomed for a leadership role, with reports suggesting she is contributing to policy decisions.
In recent times, Kim Ju Ae has made more public appearances, attending missile launches and even appearing at China’s “Victory Day” parade. South Korean intelligence agencies suggest she could be in line for internal succession. This military display comes after Kim Jong-un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, issued threats in response to joint military exercises by the US and South Korea.
North Korea, known for its large military, has a history of tensions with South Korea, with Kim Jong-un warning of potential drastic actions against the South. Meanwhile, Kim Yo Jong, who was previously seen as the heir apparent, has taken on a new role as a department director at the Korean Central News Agency, a move seen as significant in consolidating Kim Jong-un’s control over the government.
