“Duchess of Cambridge Passes on Beer Tasting Amid Alcohol Reduction”

The Duchess of Cambridge delegated the beer tasting to her spouse during a brewery visit today, citing a reduction in alcohol consumption “since my diagnosis”. Kate, aged 44, underwent chemotherapy in 2024 and revealed her cancer remission last year.

At Fabal beerhall, Kate and Prince William learned about the Bermondsey Beer Mile, an area housing numerous craft breweries and tap rooms. Politely declining the offer to sample beer and cider, Kate mentioned to owner Hannah Rhodes about her decreased alcohol intake post-diagnosis.

Addressing Prince William, Kate playfully acknowledged his enjoyment of cider before he indulged in a variety of beers and ciders, including some from Rhodes’ brand Hiver, known for using honey from bee hives in the fermentation process as a sugar substitute.

Being a beekeeper with hives at her Norfolk residence, Kate sampled honey by dipping a stick into a jar and remarked on the seasonal taste differences. She also shared insights on the natural fermentation process when harvesting honey from hives.

Subsequently, William and Kate engaged in brewing activities at Southwark Brewing company, a craft beer establishment on the Bermondsey Beer Mile known for its small-batch production under the railway arches.

After showcasing their brewing skills, the couple competed to pour the best pint, surpassing the owner’s attempt. Impressed, Peter Jackson, the brewery operator, jokingly invited them for a shift on Saturday.

Jackson even facilitated a birthday video call for his son, Will Jackson, with Prince William extending warm wishes. The conversation lightened as they discussed celebratory plans and the significance of pubs in fostering community connections.

The royal couple later proceeded by boat to the RNLI lifeboat station on the Thames, where they interacted with crews and volunteers dedicated to saving lives along the river. This visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of RNLI Lifeguards, emphasizing the crucial role of the RNLI in water safety.

Tower Lifeboat Station, the RNLI’s busiest, operates year-round, ensuring prompt response to emergencies on the Thames. This visit underscores the royal family’s ongoing support for the RNLI’s lifesaving endeavors.
