Documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux recently revealed that the individual he considers the most despicable person he has ever encountered is Jimmy Savile, a notorious figure in Britain. Theroux has delved into a wide range of controversial subjects during his extensive career spanning three decades.
Theroux produced two documentaries about Savile, starting with “When Louis Met Jimmy” in 2000, prior to the public exposure of Savile’s heinous crimes. He revisited the topic in 2016 with “Louis Theroux: Savile,” reflecting on his initial experience and the subsequent shocking revelations.
In an interview with LadBible, Theroux explained why Savile stands out as the worst person he has met. He described the dissonance of discovering Savile’s history as a serial sex offender after initially perceiving him without knowledge of his crimes. Theroux emphasized that Savile is recognized as one of the most notorious public figures to have committed predatory acts.
This is not the first time Theroux has discussed his interactions with Savile. In a 2019 interview with the Irish Times, he expressed feelings of guilt for viewing Savile in a more favorable light following their professional engagements, before the truth about Savile’s abusive behavior emerged.
In 2022, Theroux shared his ongoing reflections on his regret for not delving deeper into Savile’s actions at the time. He expressed a desire to acknowledge the survivors and potentially facilitate a process where victims could confront Savile for his actions.
Theroux’s comments on encountering the worst person align with the launch of his latest project, “Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere,” available on Netflix.
