Customers of Halifax, Lloyds, and Bank of Scotland encountered a situation where they could view transactions of others on their banking apps today. Martin Lewis mentioned that customers had reached out to him regarding this issue. Reports from Halifax and Lloyds customers flooded DownDetector, although the exact number of affected users is yet to be determined.
Halifax attributed the issue to a “technical glitch” in response to one customer, while Lloyds expressed regret over customers experiencing difficulties viewing transactions on the app briefly this morning. They assured that the problem was swiftly resolved, and investigations are ongoing.
A woman shared her experience with BBC Scotland News, stating she could see the accounts of six different users on the Bank of Scotland app, including sensitive details like National Insurance numbers and income sources. Another customer, Lauren Johnstone, expressed dismay after observing transactions made by someone in Liverpool displayed on her phone.
The root cause of the challenges faced by Halifax, Lloyds, and Bank of Scotland customers this morning remains uncertain. The banks have cited a ‘glitch’ as the reason for the incident. Customers reported that although incorrect transactions were visible, account holder names were not displayed, with only partial details like the last four digits of the card used being evident.
Lloyds mentioned that they are aware of the issues some customers are facing and advised logging out and back in as a potential solution. Despite the display of others’ transactions, customers noted that their account balances remained unaffected. Some customers mentioned that the app seemed to have rectified itself, while Halifax assured customers of their ongoing efforts to resolve the issue promptly.
