B&M will be closing hundreds of its stores in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland for a single day next month to observe Easter Sunday. The popular discount retailer will shut down operations on April 5, 2026, giving its employees a well-deserved break.
However, all B&M branches in Scotland will remain open as usual. A spokesperson from B&M stated that stores in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will be closed on Easter Sunday, while those in Scotland will continue trading with their regular hours.
This closure will only be for Easter Sunday, as B&M stores will operate normally on Good Friday, April 3, and Easter Monday, April 6. It is not uncommon for retailers to adjust their hours or close entirely during public holidays. In compliance with regulations, stores in England and Wales larger than 280 square meters must close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.
Customers should be aware that B&M store hours may differ from location to location during the extended holiday weekend. It is advisable to check in advance to avoid arriving at a closed store.
For information on the operating hours of your nearest B&M store, utilize the store locator tool on bmstores.co.uk/stores or download the B&M app, which includes a store locator feature.
Established in 1978, B&M is recognized as one of the top variety retailers in the UK. The company, originating from Blackpool, Lancashire, has expanded to over 700 stores and employs more than 35,000 staff, offering quality branded products at competitive prices and serving millions of satisfied customers weekly.
Under the Sunday Trading Act 1994, stores in England and Wales exceeding 280 square meters are required to close on Easter Sunday. This legislation regulates the duration larger stores can operate on Sundays. Smaller shops under 280 square meters are not bound by this law, but many choose to close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day to grant their employees time off. However, there are no specific regulations in Scotland regarding opening hours on these holidays.
As of March 12, 2026, there are seven remaining bank holidays in England and Wales for the year, with the next one being Good Friday on April 3, followed by holidays in April, May, August, and December.
