“Family Road Adventure: Exploring Scotland in a Skoda”

Embarking on a Scottish road adventure may not immediately conjure images of family trips with young children, but it’s entirely feasible with the right vehicle and ample snacks. Last summer, a transformation occurred from a hesitant flyer to a dedicated road explorer when a Skoda Kodiaq vRS was borrowed for a journey from Manchester to France. This experience kindled a newfound love for road trips, leading to a subsequent offer to journey to Scotland in a Superb Estate SportLine 2.0 provided by Skoda.

The Superb Estate SportLine 2.0, though sizeable and not ideal for compact parking spaces, offers generous storage capacity and a sporty feel. The journey commenced from Manchester with passengers including myself, my partner John, six-year-old Molly, and one-year-old Poppy. The route planned a stopover at Gleddoch Golf and Spa Resort near Glasgow before moving on to Cameron House on Loch Lomond, continuing through Glencoe to Oban, and eventually returning home via Loch Lomond.

During the trip, John predominantly assumed driving duties while I managed snack distribution and entertainment for Molly and Poppy. The Skoda’s user-friendly navigation system and blackout screens facilitated a smooth ride, allowing the children to nap comfortably. A four-hour drive culminated in a stay at Gleddoch, a family-friendly hotel with impressive amenities, including a luxurious spa boasting panoramic views.

Subsequent stops included the renowned Cameron House, exuding Scottish charm with attentive staff and delectable dining options. The journey further led to the breathtaking landscapes of Glencoe, celebrated for its scenic beauty and historic significance. The adventure concluded in Oban at Rhunacairn, a charming Sykes Cottages house by Loch Etive, offering a serene retreat amidst picturesque surroundings.

The trip not only showcased Scotland’s beauty but also highlighted valuable insights for traveling with children, as suggested by parenting expert Kirsty Ketley. Practical tips included planning around nap times, engaging entertainment options, and ensuring safety measures are in place.

In retrospect, the Scottish road trip proved to be a delightful escapade, prompting thoughts of future adventures with Skoda vehicles tailored for diverse excursions.
