“UK Archery Retailer Quicks Archery Enters Administration, Orders in Limbo”

A prominent UK sports equipment retailer has gone into administration, leaving customers worldwide in limbo regarding their orders. Quicks Archery, a long-standing establishment specializing in archery gear, accessories, and literature, operated for 67 years. Originally founded as a department within Hargreaves sports business by David George Quick, the store later evolved into an independent archery specialist.

Established in 1949, Quicks Archery gained popularity in the 1950s and 1960s with its renowned “The Bowman’s Guide” catalog, which revolutionized archery retail in the UK and attracted a global following. However, recent developments have seen the brand facing financial challenges. According to a notice in The London Gazette, administrator Jonathan Paul Philmore of Philmore & Co Ltd was appointed on March 3.

The company’s website recently announced delays in processing orders due to a business restructure, thanking customers for their patience. In 2024, Quicks Archers narrowly avoided dissolution after a strike-off scare prompted by delayed account filings. The company, employing approximately 26 individuals across three branches, managed to avert closure following a regulatory intervention.

Notably, Quicks Archery had made strategic investments, such as leasing a modern studio and shop in Leeds and sponsoring Team GB archers at the Paris Olympics. However, recent setbacks in the logistics sector have affected the industry, exemplified by the collapse of Pedal and Post, a parcel delivery service. Liquidators have been appointed for the defunct operation, marking the end of a 14-year trading history.
