“King Charles Revokes Honorary Titles Amid Scandals”

King Charles has recently taken action to revoke honorary titles from individuals, a decision not taken lightly. In the past month alone, he has stripped nine people of their OBEs (Officer of the Order of the British Empire). This action is typically reserved for individuals with criminal convictions, misconduct issues, or those who have been removed from regulatory bodies. One notable case is that of former Scottish Rugby player Stuart Hogg, who had his MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) revoked after pleading guilty to domestic abuse charges against his estranged wife Gillian.

Hogg, a former Glasgow Warriors fullback with an illustrious career, had received the MBE in the 2024 New Year honors for his contributions to rugby. However, following his admission of abusive behavior towards Gillian, there were calls for his honor to be revoked. The official notice in the UK’s public record, The Gazette, stated that King Charles had directed the cancellation and annulment of Hogg’s MBE appointment.

In addition to Hogg, others have also faced the revocation of their honors, including Paul Allen Rose, the founder of Barrow’s Owl Sanctuary in Cumbria. Rose, convicted of animal welfare offenses, had his MBE title stripped due to a criminal conviction. This removal of prestigious titles serves as a consequence for individuals found guilty of misconduct or criminal actions.
