“Sri Lankan man faces exposure, assault charges in UK hotel”

A man allegedly engaged in indecent exposure and assaulted two hotel staff members at a facility accommodating asylum seekers, according to court proceedings. Sukirthan Thangrasha, a Sri Lankan national, is facing a charge of exposure following the incident at Highfield House Hotel in Southampton on August 15, 2025.

During the trial at Portsmouth Crown Court, it was revealed that the 38-year-old, with the assistance of a Tamil interpreter, had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of assault against the staff members.

Prosecutor Jack Furness stated that Thangrasha became agitated at the hotel reception due to issues with his phone not working. He resorted to verbal abuse and eventually exposed himself by pulling down his trousers. Furness explained that the defendant, residing in asylum seeker accommodation at the time, directed derogatory remarks towards the staff, demanding assistance with his phone before exposing himself to multiple individuals.

Following the incident, one staff member expressed fear of a potential attack by Thangrasha, who admitted to assaulting him and another colleague. CCTV footage captured the event, with Thangrasha acknowledging the exposure but denying any intention to cause alarm or distress.

The trial is ongoing, with further proceedings yet to unfold.
