“Royal Family’s Former Island for Sale: £350K”

A picturesque private island previously owned by the Royal Family is up for sale at £350,000, offering a unique opportunity for buyers. Ynys Gifftan, located off the coast of Portmeirion in north Wales, was once under the ownership of Queen Anne in the 1700s before being passed down to a local landowner’s descendants.

Spanning 17.74 acres, the island features a Victorian farmhouse that has been uninhabited for nearly six decades. However, potential buyers should be prepared for some challenges as the property lacks mains electricity and may require a new water system. Situated within the Snowdonia National Park, access to the island is limited to a three-hour window on foot around low tide.

Estate agent Hugh O’Donnell, in collaboration with Carter Jonas, mentioned significant interest from prospective buyers intrigued by the island’s charm and potential. The new owner would need a boat to prevent isolation during high tide as the island becomes completely inaccessible at that time.

Offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Welsh coastline, the unspoiled landscape of Ynys Gifftan presents an opportunity for restoration and land management to enhance its productivity. Prospective buyers are advised to exercise caution during inspections and remain vigilant for their safety, particularly as the island features an abandoned farmhouse that requires renovation, along with additional buildings suitable for conversion.

With its historical significance and proximity to notable landmarks like St David’s Golf Club, the island’s listing price of £350,000 slightly exceeds the average house price in the UK. Originally named Anne’s Gift Island in honor of Queen Anne, this unique property carries a rich heritage dating back to the early 18th century.
