Katya Jones is poised to sign a fresh contract as she celebrates her decade-long tenure on Strictly Come Dancing. Despite speculations about potential cuts among professional dancers, BBC executives are reportedly eager to retain the Russian dancer due to her immense popularity with viewers.
Recent reports indicated that Karen Hauer has been removed from the show after serving as a professional since 2012. She partnered with various celebrities, including Jayde Adams, Chris Ramsey, and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, but it seems her contract was not renewed. Hauer joins a list of professionals, including Nadiya Bychkova and Gorka Marquez, who will not be part of this season’s lineup.
Regarding Katya’s contract renewal, an insider informed Mail Online that she will continue on Strictly Come Dancing as the show’s bosses value her highly for her fan appeal and exceptional choreography skills.
In other developments, Michelle Tsiakkas, who danced with former EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick, has also been cut from the program along with Luba Mushtuk.
Significant changes are underway for the long-standing competition, especially following the departure of hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman from the BBC last year. An industry source likened the pro lineup changes to a sports team’s strategy of bringing in fresh talent periodically to maintain peak performance.
Referring to Nadiya’s departure, the source suggested age might have played a role in the decision, indicating a shift towards newer talents. Nadiya, a fan favorite, was reportedly upset by the news.
Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, and Michelle Tsiakkas are also among those reportedly axed. Gorka missed the last season due to commitments with the Spanish version of the show, while both Luba and Michelle did not have partners on the program.
Tess and Claudia, in a joint statement, expressed gratitude for their time hosting Strictly Come Dancing and announced their departure from the show.
