Trump Criticizes Iran’s New Supreme Leader Selection

Donald Trump has expressed his disregard for Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamanei, the successor to his father. Trump, who previously criticized the new leader, asserted his desire to play an active role in choosing Iran’s new leader, similar to his involvement in Venezuela after Nicolás Maduro’s capture by US forces. He criticized Iran’s decision to appoint Mojtaba, referring to him as a “lightweight” and claiming Iran was “wasting” time.

In a recent interview, Trump made his stance clear on the new leader in just eight words: “I have no message for him. None, whatsoever.” Trump stated his preference for a different leader for Iran, despite Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei already being announced as his father’s replacement.

Trump emphasized the importance of selecting a leader for Iran who would benefit the people and the country, to avoid the need for frequent leadership changes. He warned that any new leader of Iran not approved by the US would not last long, indicating his strong stance on the matter.

During the interview, Trump hinted that the conflict with Iran may be nearing its end, citing significant damage to Iran’s military capabilities, including the destruction of their navy, communication systems, and air force. The US military reported targeting over 3,000 Iranian sites in the initial phase of operations, leading Trump to believe that little remained of Iran’s military strength.

Initially projecting the war’s duration to be around a month, Trump later claimed the conflict was progressing faster than anticipated. While Trump expressed confidence in the situation, the Department of Defense’s contradictory statement suggested a longer and ongoing conflict.

Critics pointed out the inconsistency between Trump’s statements and the Defense Department’s post, questioning the status of the conflict and highlighting the need for clarity on the administration’s position.
