A father, who was described as being in an intoxicated state, was captured on video damaging a school bus filled with children after being refused a ride. The incident took place on a busy street in Sittingbourne, Kent, on April 22 last year. Paul Fuller, aged 42, insisted on boarding the school bus, which was stuck in traffic, but when denied, he turned violent and began hitting the bus’s windshield. A dashcam video from a passing vehicle showed Fuller repeatedly striking the window before eventually using a brick to shatter it.
According to Kent Online, Medway Magistrates’ Court heard that Fuller not only threatened the bus driver but also caused fear among the children onboard. Despite the chaos, the courageous driver managed to steer the bus away from Fuller’s attack. Fuller was later apprehended, charged with assault and criminal damage, and admitted to the charges during a court appearance in November. The prosecutor recounted the details of the unsettling incident, highlighting Fuller’s aggressive behavior and threats towards the driver.
Following the ordeal, the bus driver faced significant distress and physical harm, with glass splinters needing removal from his body. He expressed enduring anxiety and reluctance to return to work due to the traumatic experience. Fuller, who acknowledged his wrongdoing and expressed regret, had a history of criminal behavior leading up to the bus incident. He attributed his actions to personal struggles and excessive drinking following a relationship breakdown.
Fuller received an 18-week suspended jail sentence, was mandated to perform 200 hours of unpaid work, and was ordered to pay fines and compensation to the victim and the bus company for damages caused. Despite his remorse and efforts to address his alcohol dependency, Fuller faced legal consequences for his destructive behavior.
