Princess Eugenie has resigned as the patron of an organization fighting against slavery in light of her father Andrew’s arrest and the Epstein scandal.
For seven years, Princess Eugenie served as the patron of Anti-Slavery International, working closely with leaders in the anti-slavery movement. However, her association with the charity has now been disassociated as her profile no longer appears on the charity’s website.
Anti-Slavery International confirmed the termination of Princess Eugenie’s patronage in a recent statement, thanking her for her support over the years and expressing hope for her continued efforts in combating slavery.
Founded in 1839 in London as the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society, Anti-Slavery International is the world’s oldest human rights charity dedicated to eradicating modern slavery, affecting an estimated 50 million individuals globally.
Additionally, Princess Eugenie co-founded the Anti-Slavery Collective in 2017 with her close friend, Julia de Boinville.
The decision to step down by Princess Eugenie follows the recent arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicions of misconduct. He is currently under investigation and has retreated to his temporary residence on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
Andrew’s arrest is believed to be linked to allegations of sharing confidential information with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his time as the UK’s trade envoy. This incident occurred shortly after the release of new documents from the Epstein case by the US Department of Justice on January 30.
Despite his denials, Andrew’s association with Epstein led to the removal of his royal titles and his prompt departure from the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
In the aftermath of these events, questions have arisen regarding Princess Eugenie and her sister Beatrice’s roles within the royal family. Reports suggest they have been excluded from public events like the Royal Ascot to protect the reputation of other prominent royals. Both sisters have maintained a low profile since their father’s arrest, with sightings of them in London, while the whereabouts of their mother, Sarah Ferguson, remain undisclosed.
