A woman who was pregnant has confessed to leaving the scene of a tragic e-scooter accident that resulted in the deaths of a teenage brother and sister. The incident occurred in Pitsea, Essex, where 16-year-old Roman Casselden and his nine-year-old sister Darcie lost their lives in a collision last February.
Deimante Ziobryte, a 21-year-old from Benfleet, Essex, tearfully acknowledged her actions in court, facing the potential of a prison sentence for her offense. The court proceedings revealed that Ziobryte was driving a car that collided with the e-scooter carrying the siblings.
During the court session, the prosecutor detailed how Ziobryte had driven away from the crash site without contacting emergency services, despite making calls to family members. CCTV footage captured her departure from the scene, with no attempt made to report the incident to the authorities.
After a thorough investigation, Essex Police concluded that no criminal offenses were linked to the collision. The family of Roman and Darcie has been receiving support from specialist officers since the tragic incident. Ziobryte admitted to failing to stop at the scene of the accident, with a potential prison term of up to 26 weeks looming over her. The case has been adjourned for sentencing in May, pending the production of a pre-sentence report by probation services.
