John Hunt shares his journey of grief as he gets ready to provide commentary at Cheltenham, less than two years after his wife and two daughters were tragically killed. Finding solace in sports, Hunt navigates life without his late wife Carol and daughters Hannah and Louise.
Kyle Clifford received three life sentences and three whole life orders in March 2025 for the horrific murders. He is incarcerated indefinitely for the brutal acts that took the lives of Carol, Louise, and Hannah.
Known as the BBC’s esteemed horse racing commentator, Hunt recently covered the Winter Olympics and is now gearing up for the Cheltenham Festival, his pinnacle event of the year, after enduring a life-altering tragedy twenty months ago.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Hunt opened up about finding a sense of “comfort” in life. Supported by his surviving daughter Amy, Hunt also credits his work, therapy, yoga, exercise, and social interactions for aiding in his healing process.
Reflecting on his journey, Hunt admitted, “I’ve had moments where I pushed myself too hard and suffered the consequences.” Describing the unpredictable nature of grief, he shared, “It’s a rollercoaster. One moment, you feel optimistic, and the next, you’re overwhelmed. But surrendering to these emotions builds resilience.”
Utilizing his personal tragedy to advocate against male violence, Hunt emphasized the importance of addressing the issue to prevent future tragedies. He highlighted the need to support young men at risk of perpetrating violence and emphasized the significance of early intervention.
Hunt’s advocacy led him to participate in the TV series “Ross Kemp: Lost Boys, Deadly Men,” shedding light on the escalating violence against women and girls in the UK.
