Triple murderer Anthony Russell is suspected of causing fatal injuries to Ian Huntley in a prison incident. Huntley, 52, passed away in hospital due to severe brain trauma allegedly inflicted by Russell at HMP Frankland in Durham on February 26.
Authorities have not officially named the suspect, but a man in his mid-40s was apprehended following the attack. The police confirmed Huntley’s death after the assault in a workshop, stating that an investigation is ongoing with a file being prepared for potential charges by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Russell was convicted in 2022 for a series of killings, including murdering David Williams and his mother in a violent spree. The timeline of his crimes includes strangling Williams and his mother with numerous injuries, followed by robbing and assaulting multiple individuals before raping and murdering Nicole McGregor.
Russell received a whole-life sentence for his crimes, with the judge describing him as exceptionally dangerous and violent. He will serve his sentence without the possibility of parole.
