Former Chelsea and German soccer star Michael Ballack has opened up about the tragic loss of his son, Emilio, who passed away following a quad bike accident near their holiday retreat in Portugal last year.
Emilio, 18, was the middle child among Ballack’s three sons, with older brother Louis a year ahead and younger sibling Jordi born three years after Emilio. In his first public remarks on the incident, Ballack described the overwhelming emotions he has been experiencing since the tragedy.
During an interview with Sky in his native language, titled ‘My Story,’ Ballack struggled to articulate his feelings, pausing for a long moment before simply stating, “Difficult,” and repeating the word after another pause. He went on to express the profound impact of his son’s passing, describing it as an indescribable process of repression and denial.
Ballack admitted the challenge of discussing Emilio, revealing that the loss has intensified his sense of responsibility as a parent to provide stability and security for his children. He emphasized the importance of finding strength in facing adversity and the realization that life must continue despite the hardships.
In a separate development, Sky has announced a reduced price for its Essential TV and Sky Sports package for the upcoming 2025/26 season, offering significant savings to subscribers and an expanded lineup of live matches from the Premier League and EFL, including at least 215 live Premier League games.
