“Nasty” Man Sentenced for Murder of Deaf Woman

A man known as “Nasty” has been sentenced for the murder of a deaf woman after violently attacking her and throwing her out of a car in Dagenham, London. The incident occurred on August 16, 2025, when Duane Owusu, 36, assaulted Zahwa Mukhtar, 27, following an argument during a night out.

Owusu ejected Ms. Mukhtar from the vehicle after she clashed with one of his friends. Witnesses described Owusu as behaving like a “monster” during the brutal assault. The court heard that Ms. Mukhtar had pulled the hair of Owusu’s female friend and made threats during the altercation, leading to her being thrown out of the car.

Owusu proceeded to physically attack Ms. Mukhtar, kicking and punching her while she was on the pavement. A witness described the harrowing moment when Ms. Mukhtar fell to the ground as she pleaded for help. Despite efforts to assist her, witnesses were instructed to return to the car by Owusu.

Following the incident, Owusu and his group were stopped by the police not far from the scene. Ms. Mukhtar was pronounced dead at the location, having sustained severe injuries. Owusu denied punching her, claiming he acted in self-defense.

During the trial, CCTV footage revealed Owusu’s callous behavior towards the victim, as he criticized another individual for wanting to help her. Despite denying the murder and manslaughter charges, Owusu was found guilty after a dramatic trial that left jurors deeply affected.

The trial also saw a dramatic moment when Ms. Mukhtar’s brother reacted emotionally in court. Owusu was convicted of murder and is now facing the consequences of his heinous actions.
