The world’s largest dog competition commences today in Birmingham, with dogs arriving in various ways – some in trolleys, others carried by their owners, and a few arriving on public transport.
Approximately 18,000 dogs from over 200 different breeds are set to compete this year at the National Exhibition Centre.
Hosting this year’s event is Clare Balding, joined for the first time by Claudia Winkleman. The competition includes various categories like agility, heelwork to music, and flyball, in addition to the main breed judging.
As the event unfolds, we highlight some of the captivating moments captured on day one of the competition, which will run until Sunday when the prestigious Best in Show title will be awarded.
Among the early arrivals at the National Exhibition Centre this morning was Miro, a Polish Lowland Sheepdog, seen being transported in a crate. Over 200 breeds are showcased, with a Dutch Shepherd, a Chihuahua, and a Malinois dog posing for a photo.
While some dogs are groomed to perfection like the Shetland Sheepdog and Bearded Collies, others like Pete Anderton’s Hungarian Puli named Tilly prefer to catch a nap before the excitement. Owners ensure their Australian Shepherd and Bearded Collie are in top form for the competition.
The show will continue until Sunday, culminating in the crowning of the Best in Show winner.
