“Fire Forces Hospital Evacuation in Somerset”

A fire incident this morning led to the evacuation of a hospital in Somerset. Weston General Hospital was swiftly emptied as emergency services arrived on the scene after reports of a fire in one of the wards around 5:30 am. Witnesses mentioned hearing numerous sirens in Weston-Super-Mare due to the fire, which fortunately did not result in any injuries.

According to reports, all wards were evacuated, and staff were waiting outside for further instructions. The fire broke out in an area without any patients or staff present. Grange Road, near the hospital, was temporarily closed while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. The extent of the fire damage is yet to be determined.

Fire crews have successfully put out the fire, believed to have started accidentally. They are currently ventilating the building and checking for any remaining hotspots. Despite the incident, the hospital’s emergency department is operational, and affected patients will be contacted for rescheduling appointments.

A spokesperson from University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust confirmed the incident, assuring that no patients or staff were harmed and that the situation was promptly handled. Avon Fire and Rescue Service also provided details, mentioning that the fire was extinguished without any casualties reported. The cause of the fire is suspected to be accidental.
