Britney Spears was seen driving in a reckless manner just before her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence, as reported by law enforcement officials.
The 44-year-old singer was apprehended in California on Wednesday evening following erratic driving behavior on southbound US-101 near the Borchard Road exit in Newbury Park, as reported by a California Highway Patrol (CHP) spokesperson. After exhibiting signs of impairment, Spears underwent a series of field sobriety tests.
According to the spokesperson, a black BMW 430i was reported for speeding and erratic driving around 8:48 pm to the CHP’s Ventura Communications Centre.
Spears, who was driving alone, was arrested for driving under the influence of a mix of drugs and alcohol and was taken to Ventura County Main Jail. Authorities mentioned that chemical test results are pending, and the investigation is ongoing. She was released from custody at around 6 am local time.
A spokesperson on behalf of Spears stated that the incident was regrettable and inexcusable. They expressed hope that Britney would comply with the law and receive the necessary assistance during this challenging period. Plans are being made to support her well-being, including spending time with her children and implementing a plan for her success.
In a previous incident in 2007, Spears avoided a hit-and-run prosecution by settling damages after a collision in a California car park.
Following the recent sale of part of her music catalog rights and the termination of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021, Spears collaborated with Sir Elton John and Will.i.am on music projects. Over her successful career, she has achieved six UK number one singles and collaborated with renowned artists.
In a statement on Instagram in 2024, Britney Spears declared her decision to not return to the music industry and dismissed rumors of a new album.
