“15-Vehicle Collision on M73 Near Glasgow Sends Five to Hospitals”

Five individuals have been swiftly transported to medical facilities following a collision involving 15 vehicles. The incident occurred on the M73 motorway near Gartcosh in North Lanarkshire, situated to the east of Glasgow, just before midnight on Sunday. In response, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deployed three fire vehicles and a heavy rescue unit, while the Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched six ambulances and two special operations response teams (SORT).

Of the individuals involved, two were admitted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, two others were taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, and one person was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Meanwhile, three additional patients received on-site medical attention. The current status of those hospitalized remains undisclosed.

The road closure extended northbound from Junction 2 (Baillieston Interchange) to Junction 2A (Mollinsburn Interchange) as emergency teams managed the situation near Junction 2A (Gartcosh Interchange). Traffic Scotland reported the road reopening just prior to 4 am on Monday.

Amey SW Trunk Roads characterized the incident as a “15-vehicle RTC” and advised motorists to steer clear of the affected area.
