“12-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Newcastle Scooter Crash”

A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition following a collision involving an electric scooter and a car in Newcastle. The incident occurred on Earsdon Close, near the junction with West Denton Way, on Sunday evening. The boy was riding the scooter on the footpath when he tried to cross the junction and was hit by a red Volvo V40 traveling on the road.

The boy suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he remains in a life-threatening state. His family has been notified and is receiving support from specialized personnel.

The driver of the Volvo, a 48-year-old man, stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury due to careless driving. He has been released pending further investigation.

The incident triggered a significant emergency response, with multiple police vehicles, ambulance crews, and paramedics on site. The road was closed for a few hours but reopened later in the evening.
